Professor and Director Center for Biomarker Research and Personalized Medicine, PhD Erasmus University Rotterdam 1993, Dr. Van den Oord was trained in applied statistics and psychiatric genetics. His research aims to develop and apply methodology for identifying biomarkers to improve disease understanding and match individual patients to the most effective and safe medication. The main applications involve substance use disorders and psychiatric conditions. Examples of ongoing projects include efforts to replicate findings from schizophrenia genomewide association studies in case-control and family samples, the development of a flexible statistical framework for designing high-dimensional biological investigations, the study of all methamphetamine induced metabolic changes in rodent brain, and finding genetic markers to predict response to treatment with antipsychotics.
