The RAM Volunteer Corps is a non-profit, volunteer group dedicated to providing free health care, dental care, veterinary services, and
technical/educational assistance to people in remote areas of the United States and the world.

What will students do on RAM?
In the pharmacy, students will dispense prescriptions and counsel patients under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. Students
may also participate in diabetes education (point of care testing, diet counseling and medication review), blood pressure checks,
answering drug information questions, bone mineral density testing, and anything to help accomplish the mission of providing health
care to underserved patients (patient escorts, registration, etc.).
How can students prepare to go?
Students will review patient counseling and basic physical exam skills with VCU faculty during orientation on-site in Wise, VA.
Additional opportunities will be added as needed.
How much will it cost?
The total cost of the trip is about $150.
- Carpooling is encouraged
- Meals
- Thursday night - $5.00 – food provided by local rescue squad at the fairgrounds
- Friday – Breakfast/Lunch provided, dinner on own
- Saturday – Breakfast/Lunch provided, group dinner at Mountain Rose Vineyard ($15)
- Sunday – Breakfast provided, lunch on own
- Housing – UVa Wise dormitory ($25 per night)
- Uniform – Group T-shirt ($25 for 2 shirts; one shirt for each day)
