We have a rolling admission policy.

Selection Process

Upon completion of the Graduate School application, submission of GRE and TOEFL (foreign students only) scores, transcripts and recommendation letters, application packages are sent to the School of Pharmacy for admission decisions.

Admission to our graduate program is a selective process and targeted towards specific research groups. Applicants are reviewed and ranked on certain selection criteria:

  • Academic performance
  • Class rank during undergraduate education
  • Advanced degrees
  • Research experience (either work related or through formal education)
  • GRE scores (close attention is paid to the percentile scores in all three categories, verbal, analytical and quantitative)
  • TOEFL scores
  • Candidate telephone interviews.

No single criteria is given priority, the application is evaluated based on overall strengths. Applicants are encouraged to provide additional information beyond the criteria mentioned above if they feel that such information might strengthen their application.

Students are strongly encouraged to review the different research areas in the Department and identify an area of interest. The student should justify in their Personal Statement their reasons for selecting the specific research area.

Graduate Student Funding

There are funding resources available to graduate students.  To learn more about funding that could be available, please refer to Grants and Funding for Graduate Students through VCU libraries to learn more.
