Pharmacy dean keynote speaker at AACP Interim Meeting
Pharmacy movers and shakers will be treated to an AACP Interim Meeting keynote address Feb. 24 by VCU School of Pharmacy Dean-slash-AACP President Victor A. Yanchick. He’ll speak on “The Academy’s Role in Healthcare Reform: Leading Through Curricular Change.”
Following his talk, Yanchick will serve as moderator for a panel on curriculum change that addresses the question: How is the academy responding to
external expectations of the pharmacist and the academy?
VCU will be showcased as one of eight universities having been selected for a 2008 Crystal APPLE Award at a Feb. 23 roundtable session, a reception
and a plenary featuring Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D.-Calif. In 1992, Allard was the first Mexican-American woman elected to Congress. She
serves on three subcommittees, including the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Subcommittee.
The School of Pharmacy will receive its first-ever Crystal APPLE for its academic-practice partnership with Buford Road Pharmacy, whose preceptor
and site administrator is Ron Davis (B.S. ’73). Davis, who is chairman of the school’s National Advisory Council, was nominated
by Beverly A. Talluto, who will also be on hand. Talluto is the School
of Pharmacy’s assistant dean for experiential education and an associate professor of pharmacy.
APPLE stands for Academic-Practice Partnerships for Learning Excellence. To learn more about the other pharmacy schools being recognized with the
Crystal APPLE, click here. (For details

Other School of Pharmacy connections at the AACP Interim Meeting include Heidi Marchand (B.S. ’82, Pharm.D. ’84), who will serve
on a Feb. 24 panel about meeting public expectations through teaching, research and service.
