Florida welcomes SOP to ACCP

It’s been a big weekend in Orlando, Fla., and not just for Disney: The ACCP/ESCP International Congress on Clinical Pharmacy, running April 24-28, 2009, is winding down at the Orange County Convention Center.

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy and European Society of Clinical Pharmacy cosponsor this event once every five years. This year’s theme is “Placing Patients First: A Global Perspective on How Clinical Pharmacy Makes Medicines Safer.” The meeting also includes the Pharmacotherapy Preparatory Course and the International Pediatric Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacology Symposium.

Among VCU School of Pharmacy participants:

  • Gary Matzke (ACCP past president), speaking on “Parallel Trading and Internet Pharmacy: U.S. Perspective” as part of “International Pharmacovigilance and the Role of Pharmacists” April 25
  • Gretchen Brophy and Jaime R. Robles, presenting original research in pharmacoepidemiology as part of scientific poster presentations April 26: “Recombinant activated factor VII utilization patterns and thromboembolic event incidence in critically ill intensive care unit patients.”
  • Sallie Mayer, Daniel Cole Kildow, Evan Sisson, Brigitte Sicat and Daniel Carl, presenting a clinical pharmacy forum on ambulatory care April 26: “Establishing ambulatory care clinical pharmacy services in a free clinic through community engagement.”
  • Gretchen Brophy, speaking on “CNS/Neurologic Therapeutics” as part of “Hot Topics and Late-Breaking Papers” April 27.
  • Don Brophy, speaking on “Renal Anemia Management” as part of “Global Clinical Pearls” April 28.

Also, Jennifer Neal (P4) is a member-at-large of the National StuNet Advisory Committee.
