SOP on the move: comings and goings

It’s that time of year!

• Don Brophy, associate professor and vice chairman for clinical pharmacy programs, has been named interim chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, effective July 1.
• Renee L. Murray has been hired, effective May 18, as director of the IPPE program for the Office of Experiential Education. A 1997 graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, she worked as director of pharmacy services at Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center in Nashville, Tenn., from 1998 to 2008.
• Ron Polk, professor, steps down as chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, effective July 1, to become more involved in research as well as graduate program development. He has served as department chairman since 2004.
• Wesley J. Poynor has retired, effective May 16, as an associate professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics (although, as he points out, his PCEU 509 final exam was scheduled for May 19!). He and his wife, Kay, already have a few summer trips planned, including to Corolla, N.C.; Tucson, Ariz. (for a spa and golf clinic); a family reunion and a visit to England with their son and new daughter-in-law … not to mention Texas Longhorn football games this fall. In his “free” time, he says, he’ll pursue his hobbies: photography, genealogy and computer wizardry.
• Beverly Talluto, assistant dean for experiential education, reports June 1 to her new job as associate dean for clinical programs at Texas A&M’s Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy in Kingsville, Texas. She joined the VCU School of Pharmacy faculty in 2004.
• Ann M. Weisner will join the Department of Pharmacy, effective Aug. 17. A 2007 graduate of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, she completed a pharmacy practice residency and is finishing an AmCare residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington this summer.
• Approved as affiliate faculty in the Department of Pharmacy are Matthew Banks, Rebeccah Collins, Monty Kier, Edward Murrelle and William Zellmer.
