AACP annual meeting’s just around the corner!

The early-bird registration fee has been extended to June 8 for the 2009 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting and Seminars.

The meeting, set to take place July 18-22 in Boston, has as its theme “Leading the Revolution.” Online registration (at the regular rate) runs through June 26.

Featured speaker for the opening session is Sir Ken Robinson, author of “Out of Our Minds: Learning to Be Creative.” Robinson specializes in the development of creativity, innovation and human resources. In 2003, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for service to the arts and education.

VCU School of Pharmacy will be well-represented at the annual meeting: Among Dean Victor Yanchick’s responsibilities as AACP president will be participating in the Wal-Mart Scholars Program Meet and Greet and a session for new faculty and “first-timers.”

He will also speak at a special session on “Global Alliance for Pharmaceutical Education” and will moderate a science symposium on “Nanotechnology and Drug Development.”

As chairman-elect of AACP’s Council of Faculties, Gary Matzke, associate dean for clinical research and public policy, is looking for a few good committee or task force members for 2009-10. Interested in volunteering or want to know more? Click here.

Also, David Holdford, associate professor of pharmacy, will speak at a symposium on “The Science and Teaching of Quality Improvement” and at a special session on “The EPIQ (Educating Pharmacy Students and Pharmacists to Improve Quality) Program: A Train-the-Trainer Program for Pharmacy Faculty.”

Brigitte Sicat, assistant professor, and Cynthia Kirkwood, associate professor, are among the speakers in a special session on “Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of Team-Based Learning in Pharmacy Practice Education.”

Beverly Talluto, former assistant dean for experiential education, will speak at a special session on “Intervention Databases: A Tool for Documenting Student Learning and Clinical Value.”
