Live from Boston: It’s the AACP
VCU School of Pharmacy faculty and staff have been all over Beantown this week.
The 2009 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting and Seminars, which ends July 22 in Boston, has been helmed by SOP Dean Victor Yanchick.
In addition to his responsibilities as AACP president, Yanchick participated in the Wal-Mart Scholars Program Meet and Greet, a session for new faculty and AACP first-timers, at least five board of directors events, at least three House of Delegates events and numerous receptions, lunches and dinners … including the Teacher of the Year Luncheon, at which Joanne Peart, associate professor of pharmaceutics, represented VCU School of Pharmacy.
Yanchick also spoke at a special session on “Global Alliance for Pharmaceutical Education,” moderated a science symposium on “Nanotechnology and Drug Development,” made introductions and presented awards at “Examining Excellence: 2009 Awards Plenary” and was honored at a President’s Reception by colleagues from all over. Being AACP president can be a 24-7 kind of a job; that doesn’t even include the behind-the-scenes work.

Spencer Harpe, and Lisa Phipps, assistant professors of pharmacy, collaborated on two posters: “Changes in Pharmacy Students’ Attitudes Towards Research and Statistics After a Drug Literature Evaluation Course” and “Potential Involvement in Scholarly Activities by Pharmacy Students.”

Sean Bates, executive director of postgraduate educational programs -- with the aid of Danielle Fife, continuing education assistant – planned, enrolled participants in and presided over 38 continuing education sessions. And Tom Reinders, associate dean for admissions and student services, spoke at a special session, “APhA Career Pathway Evaluation Program for Pharmacy Professionals: Train the Trainer Session.”
