2009 - 2010 Fellow - Stephanie Hammonds, Pharm.D.


Stephanie Hammonds Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) are please to welcome Stephanie Hammonds, Pharm.D. as the 2009-2010 Pharmacy Healthcare Policy Fellow. Dr. Hammonds served as the 2008-2009 Fellow. She was selected as the 2009-2010 Fellow based on her strong desire to continue to contribute to the health reform initiatives that have been and are forthcoming form the Senate HELP committee where she has served as a healthcare policy fellow on the majority staff under the leadership of Senator Ted Kennedy for the past 10 months.

The collaborative program was established in 2006 in recognition of the need to foster enhanced experience and training for clinical pharmacists in health care and public policy. The program is designed to give Fellows experience working with the government affairs offices of ACCP and ASHP followed by placement in a Congressional office.

Dr. Hammonds earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2004 from Purdue University, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Upon graduation, she joined The Johns Hopkins Hospital as a Point of Care Pharmacist, focused largely in pediatric oncology. While at Hopkins she co-founded the Pediatric Pharmacy Safety Committee and served on the USP-797 compliance committee. In 2006 she moved to New York, where she worked at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center, primarily in the surgery pharmacy. While in New York, she served as the Interim Chair of the Legislative Action Committee for the New York City Society of the New York State Council of Health System Pharmacists. In September of 2007, she relocated to her hometown, York, Pennsylvania, where she has practiced as a community pharmacist for Target.
