George Neyarapally, Pharm.D., M.P.H., was the Inaugural 2006 - 2007 VCU-ACCP-ASHP Pharmacy Healthcare Policy Fellow. As a Fellow, Dr. Neyarapally worked in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); in the Office of Senator Joseph I. Lieberman; and in the government affairs offices of ASHP and ACCP.
Dr. Neyarapally received his MPH from Johns Hopkins University, Pharm.D. from the University of North Carolina, and B.S. in Finance from the University of Connecticut. Prior to starting the fellowship, he worked as a drug safety and medical information pharmacist at PPD Medical Communications in North Carolina.
After completing the Fellowship, Dr . Neyarapally worked at the Center for Outcomes and Evidence at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) from 2007 – 2008. At AHRQ, George assisted in the creation of a comparative effectiveness diabetes research consortium; chaired an AHRQ session on research collaborations; completed an AHRQ seminar presentation on the policy, access, cost, and clinical considerations associated with biosimilar pharmaceuticals; and assisted in the launch of a web site designed to inform consumers and healthcare professionals about emerging therapeutics safety issues.
Dr. Neyarapally is currently working in the Office of Surveillance of Epidemiology at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where he is working on FDA guidances for industry, assisting in the development of pharmacovigilance research concepts and the FDA Pharmacoepidemiology Research Program, and engaging in other public health activities in the post-marketing drug and biologic safety surveillance arena.
