Maintaining the program's reputation, integrity, and educational purpose is the
responsibility of the Fellow in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy at Virginia
Commonwealth University, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American
Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the congressional office in which the
Fellow works.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement
Fellows are required to be free agents who make their own choices of the offices
in which they serve, subject to the agreement of the office and the ethics committee
rulings of that Congressional body. Fellows may not provide special considerations
of any kind to Virginia Commonwealth University, the American College of Clinical
Pharmacy, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, or any entity supporting
the Fellow in any way. To maintain the integrity of the Fellow Program, as well
as to underscore that the program is a learning experience, the Fellow’s responsibility
is to the Congressional office in which they work during the year. It is important
that Fellows adhere to this principle and avoid any perceived or real conflict of
interest.
It is the responsibility of Virginia Commonwealth University, the American College
of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, or their
affiliated entities, or any entity contributing to the Fellow’s income or supporting
the Fellow in any way, to avoid creating conflicts of interest or the appearance
of conflicts of interest with respect the ethics guidelines of each of these institutions/organizations.
Service in Governance or Policy Committee Positions
Fellows serving in board or policy committee positions with any organizations that
conduct outreach or advocacy to policy makers must discontinue such involvement
for the duration of the fellow program.
Research Collaborations or Appointments
All Fellows involved in research collaborations or any appointments, with or without
government or professional organization support or remuneration, must receive approval
from the program director as well as, their host office and related ethics committee
if they wish to continue that involvement. If the activity is not approved, the
Fellow must discontinue such involvement for the duration of the fellow program.
Speaking Engagements & Publishing
All Fellows invited to give presentations must receive approval from the director
of the Fellow program as well as, the office they are currently serving in to give
the presentation. Fellows who publish on work involved in their fellowship or who
identify themselves in publications as affiliated with the program as well as any
congressional office must receive prior permission from their host office and related
ethics committee.
Honoraria from External Parties
Fellows may not accept honoraria for any speaking engagements, service on committees,
or editorial review boards.
